Beans Rice with Steaks in a Clay Pot

Living in a different city from my family means that Friday night is the night we get together and spend some family time. Since I am the one that is coming from far, my mom always asks me what do I want for dinner and can you believe that 9 out of 10 times I always ask for the same thing?

Whether it is Summer or Winter my answer always envolves Arroz de Feijão (Rice with beans) and normally I don’t care with what it comes with but this Steaks in a Clay Pan are also starting to be in my favorites list.

For the Arroz de Feijão (Rice with Beans) you will need:

  • Rice
  • 1 can of butter beans
  • Bacon or chopped smoke-cured pork sausage (I prefer the sausage)
  • Tomato sauce
  • Half of an onion
  • Olive oil
  • 2 pieces of garlic
  • Bay leaf

Steps:

  • Add the olive oil to the pot and when it is hot add the onion, garlic and the chopped smoked-cured pork sausage
  • After it braises for a few minutes add the beans and leave it for a few minutes
  • Add 1 soup spoon of tomato sauce, stir and add 1 cup of rice for 3 cups of water and let it simmer
  • When the rice is cooked, take it out from the heat and place it at the table

For the Bifes na Frigideira de Barro (Steaks in a Clay Pan) you will need:

  • Thick steaks
  • 2-3 soup spoons of olive oil
  • 3 pieces of garlic
  • Bay leaf
  • Sliced coriander

Steps:

  • Place a grill in the head and when it is really hot place the steaks inside the grill and let it grilled on both sides for a couple of second (in order to get the grill mark on the steaks)
  • After add the steaks to the clay pan and in another recipient mix the olive oil, the garlic, bay leaf and coriander
  • Pour the olive oil mix on top of the steaks and place it in the oven for 20 minutes at 180 degrees
  • Take the meat out of the oven (when they are still moist) and serve it with the rice

Enjoy it with your loved ones!
